Enrichment and Opportunities

We’re proud to offer a rich and varied enrichment timetable designed to support pupils’ personal growth, broaden their horizons, and nurture interests beyond the classroom. Our clubs give pupils the chance to discover new passions, develop existing talents, and build positive relationships with both peers and staff.

Enrichment Timetable

We update our timetable termly to reflect the clubs on offer to pupils. Please see below for our current term’s timetable:

Sport & Active Lunch

Our Active Lunch programme and after-school clubs provide plenty of opportunities for pupils to get active. Sessions link closely to the sports taught in PE, allowing pupils to consolidate skills and grow in confidence while enjoying team spirit.

Music & Performing Arts

The Music Department runs choir, orchestra, and band rehearsals, open to all pupils. In addition, one-to-one instrumental lessons are available; any pupil interested should use the form linked here: Music Tuition Registration Form – Fill out form

The Music Department offers students the opportunity to learn an instrument at school with one of our visiting tutors. We offer a broad range of instruments, also providing free instrument hire for most instruments. We offer both individual and small group lessons. If you would prefer for your child to have a small group lesson and there is nobody suitable for them to share with, you will be contacted directly to discuss the options.

Instrumental lessons take place during the school day and are timetabled so that students come out of their class lessons to attend their 20 minute instrumental lesson in the Music Department. Instrumental lessons are on a rota so that students do not miss the same class lesson too frequently. However, students do need to take responsibility for catching up on missed work with the support of their teachers. Year 11, 12 and 13 students will be offered lessons, where possible before school, in breaks or lunch times in order to not miss curriculum time. Lots of children learn an instrument at St. Wilfrid’s and teaching staff are very supportive of this system.

The instrumental timetables are on display in the Music Department, pupils need to be proactive in checking the time of their lesson each week and make their own way to their lesson.  They will not be collected by the teacher. Their form teacher and music teachers will be able to support them.

In addition to their timetabled lessons pupils learning an instrument should attend orchestra rehearsals on Tuesdays 3:15-4:15 or Rock Band practice on Wednesdays 3:15-4:15 in the Music Department, all abilities are included. This is free of charge and is a fun learning opportunity. All pupils, especially those taking singing lessons should attend choir on Monday lunchtimes 12:25-12:55.

Terms for receiving instrument or singing lessons at St. Wilfrid’s R.C. College

  1. All pupils who are registered for instrumental lessons must attend school ensembles and performance events.

  2. Students should aim to practise for at least 20 minutes four times per week. The more practice students do, the more progress they make and the more they enjoy playing their instrument

  3. St Wilfrid’s RC College will offer 30 lessons over the academic year.

  4. It is the responsibility of the student to check their lesson time and attend their lesson at the correct time.

  5. Instruments on hire are to be brought to every lesson.

  6. If your child is unable to attend a lesson due to exclusion or any reason outside the control of the school (i.e. external trips, absence, forgetting to attend, forgotten instrument) this will count towards the offered lessons.

  7. If your child wishes to change the time of their lesson due to a clash with an exam or assessment then they should arrange this with their instrument tutor in advance. Where this is not possible they should see Mrs Tolan who will make every effort to accommodate a last minute request to change the lesson.

  8. Payment must be made on Arbor Pay by the given date. Failure to pay fees by the due date will result in your child’s lessons being suspended until payment is received.

  9. To cancel your child’s lessons, confirm in writing with four weeks’ notice before the end of the current term. Fees for the current term will not be refunded even if your child does not attend lessons.

  10. Any changes to the instrumental fees will be notified in writing two months before the start of the new term in which the fees apply.

If you would like your child to receive tuition please complete the Music tuition registration & contract Microsoft form.
